CORREA VOTES AGAINST GOP ATTEMPT TO ENCOURAGE GENITAL CHECKS FOR CHILDREN

WASHINGTON — Today, Representative Lou Correa (CA-46) voted against H.R. 28 and released the following statement:

“This creepy legislation is nothing more than an attempt to use vulnerable youth across the country to score political points,” Correa said. “This bill is also trying to serve as a solution to a non-existent problem. Without an enforcement mechanism, this legislation would open the doors to subject children and young adults to genital checks by non-medical professionals. Parents here in Orange County and across the country should be horrified.”

As written, this legislation would rewrite Title IX to prohibit all transgender girls from participating in school athletics, regardless of age, ability, competition level, or sport.

“Instead of working on the real issues impacting hard-working American taxpayers on Main Street, like the cost of food, gas, housing, and health care, the majority is beginning the 119th Congress by passing political messaging bills. That’s not what our constituents deserve,” he concluded. “That’s why I voted ‘NO.’”
